The shah was a problem from the start. The plan called for him to stand fast as the C.I.A. stirred up popular unrest and then, as the country lurched toward chaos, to issue royal decrees dismissing Dr. Mossadegh and appointing General Zahedi prime minister.

To anyone who light have forgotten, the CIA sponsored the coup that overthrew a democratically elected leader to install the Shah.

This was prior to the revolution in 1979, during Eisenhower's administration, and it could be argued, inspired it.

I've yet to see coherent argument as to why the States is conducting military operations. I've seen many half-truths, but nothing resembling a united front. Everytime someone opens their moth, there is a different justification. What a mess.
