France is really fucked up. I have to explain to my relatives living there that at this stage, they will get kidnapped someday. And there is nothing I can do about it.

If they defend themselves, they will be the ones to go to jail. Kidnappers basically don't get punished.

Kidnappings happening every 2 days in France now. And you don't have to be a known figure, you don't have to be an influencer, you don't have to be wealthy. It just seem to randomly happen to anyone who somehow used bitcoin, went to meetups, paid taxes on it.

Many people come to me about technical solutions, as obviously i worked on Vaults and timelocks. This ISN'T a technical problem, perpetrators typically don't get the money anyways. I wouldn't be surprised if it's all organized to make bitcoiners live in fear.

The main advice I can give, from far away:
  • don't live in fear, you have no control over this.
  • communicate with your close ones, tell them that the rule is to involve the authorities ASAP when under threat. Make sure they are aware of their surroundings.
  • move out if you can.
Some companies have tools or training, for example @GlokApp. Many insurance providers have K&R policies, but it makes sense only if you are rich.

Exactly this. And why? Because...

went to meetups, paid taxes on it.

People are fucking stupid and don't know how to separate real life identity with online identity.
ofc is organized by state agencies. They subcontract thugs through various sites and thes thugs have no idea about what is really planned - the subversion against bitcoin, normies will shit their pants.

But as I said... Bitcoin is only for the brave.

You onboard people in your community right?

How do you navigate this issue?

Selecting wisely my "padawans"... only those that worth it.

Also... what have to do onboarding with bragging about how many BTC you have?
Always play the role of plausible deniability.
I am not going to throw away sats all over the streets, but I play the "poor guy" role that have only few sats.

Few months ago I saw an idiot with a trezor on his neck walking around in a coffee shop... I told him to be wise and hide that thing, because someday he will be nagged.

Onboarding isn’t bragging but it does signal that you have bitcoin.

I was just curious how you approach that security issue since you take both parts seriously (secrecy and onboarding).

Most of those kidnapped are on KYC lists... just think about that.
As I said gazillions of times: KYC is not about gov watching you... but the data brokers that are buying in bulk these contact lists.
The govs don't give a shit about your BTC.

Bro we are our own agency already. If there's 10,000 people in a city who are into Bitcoin, we can have a meetup of 200 decent people without worrying about 5 lingering feds. What are they gonna do? They're going to warn DC that there's a group of libertarians in the Southwest who aren't buying treasuries? I think they know. It seems like someone talked.

Whether the government wants to kill us for using BTC or not is their problem. We'll deal with whatever they throw at us when they throw it. Might as well enjoy the peaceful meetups now while they're legal.

"If they defend themselves, they will be the ones to go to jail”.

Nah, it’s okay if you shoot the legs (Cass. Chambre criminelle, 28 nov. 1972, 72-91.406).

staying alive is way better than jail;

regardless of who and in what sort of uniform-clothing threatens life, there is only one natural solution; arms & blades are available for 3 main reasons, in the following order of importance:

  1. resist tyranny
  2. punish bad guys
  3. hunting

think thru this logically and move somewhere else, totally agreed; run-hide-fight is the proper order of self-rescue from aggressors;

it appears that the infestation by the parasite-in-the-flesh worldwide has reached a new critical high, and not enuff cleansing hygiene is going on;

Run to a hiding place and hide where you can fight if needed

the technical solution is to kill existing kidnappers faster than new kidnappers spawn.

Citadels aren't built fast enough yet!

Seriously though the vault use-case for covenants is cope, same principles that would make it work for attackers inhibit exchange, workarounds for exchange make it useless against attackers.

Why don't they get punished?
