I like this analogy. And I agree that some friction is needed to incentivize effort and good behavior. These are the hypotheses I'm trying to establish in the stacker news research project
I do think people think of social media as a town square. It's actually not one. Just a massive house with a crappy owner that let's a lot of sus people in and doesn't kick them out.
Elon owns Twitter. There are no public squares. The closest thing to a public square is the Internet itself. But it's not either. It's a network. Nostr is a better model than social networks IMO.
