I think this article is spot on and, as usual, the West isn't paying enough attention. When China launched the Belt & Road Initiative, no one paid much attention until they suddenly realized Chinese interests were well established in every African, Middle East and Asian market the West stepped away from by 2000. Their long game was obvious for anyone to see, but Western egos blocked effective competition. And here we are today, still trying to rest laurels on 1950s international relations policy.
