A weird dish I have tried is fish head curry
Singapore is known as a food paradise. A diverse array of cuisines thrives under one roof, competing for Singaporeans’ attention. Among the unique dishes I have sampled is fish head curry.
Now, I know that some people are squeamish about fish eyes staring at them, but once you get past your initial discomfort, you will be taken in by the succulent curry, whose impact extends beyond its taste. Enjoy it together with the aromatic mix of spices wafting into your nose, and have the literal heat sweat your worries away!
I had Hákarl while in Iceland.
Does the fish head add anything to the meal or would the curry be just as good without it?
it does. the meat absorbs the curry gravy and packs a punch when I chew it.
The drawback is that fish heads don’t typically contain a lot of meat, so i feel it’s troublesome putting in so much effort just for a few seconds of ooomph haha
One of the weirdest things I have tried is a dish called Şırdan, which is quite popular in southeastern Türkiye. It is actually tasty, but it is definitely not something I would want to eat all the time. If you search for Şırdan on Google Images, you will probably understand what I mean just from the way it looks.
I ate a tarantula in Cambodia
Frog legs, scorpion, crickets
I tried sun-dried, salted iguana eggs. What caught my attention the most was that they would take the live iguana and perform a kind of C-section to remove the eggs. The eggs come out in a string, somewhat like sausages. Then they would sew the wound back up and release the iguana back into the wild.
In Venezuela!
this is wild! I will introduce this to my son. he is interested about all quirky things wrt animals
Fish head curry is a bold pick, love it! The cheeks are the best part, so silky once you get past the eyes staring back at you. Some folks eat those too.
glad you liked it
Indeed, liked so much I forgot to respond to your question. The weirdest thing I've ever eaten was maggot cheese during a holiday. It was a pretty unique experience, its taste was strong, nearly spicy-hot, and it needed to be accompanied with some cannonau.
you are so brave. I think I would have puked 🤮
I always like trying different mushroom things. Right now, I have some mixed mushroom and other "superfoods" powder in my coffee. Most people seem to find that odd.
