Man I am just trying to enjoy being out of DC taking care of medical shit and this is what is going on at the Capitol…. Jesus
I guess it’s good they arrested this person? Wild to drive from Cali with a Guillotine in your truck bed and somehow no one else pulled you over lol…
Maybe he was on his way to a reenactment of the French Revolution or a renaissance fair.
Lolllllll that would be hilarious to hear after the fact
Maybe he was hoping someone would voluntarily stick their head in for a photo op.
I wonder what was he charged with? (if anything). The poor bastard could work for Smithsonian making relic delivery :-)
Carrying a Dangerous Weapon for being in possession of the guillotine
Makes me think that for some reason in the Code we have a freaking guillotine listed lol.... I wouldnt be surprised if its been there for a while given the French Revolution lol
Is a guillotine even a weapon? You can't exactly wield it or attack someone with it.
I have been looking for an answer to that and I think that it is likely this.
Dangerous Weapon Broad Definition: Under District of Columbia and federal Capitol grounds laws, an object does not have to be a firearm to be deemed an illegal weapon. A large-blade execution device transported to a highly sensitive government zone is legally classified as an instrument capable of inflicting death or serious bodily injury, giving police the statutory authority to make the arrest.
Since it supposedly had a real blade on it and given its location (I am amazed the guy even got there with this in the bed of the truck tbh) I see how the dangerous weapons could apply to this. If it was somewhere else in the city, or even at the National Mall, that would be one thing, but being located between the Supreme Court and the Capitol is kinda a thing.
If we were dueling tomorrow at dawn and you got to choose the weapons from the entire catalogue of known weapons, how low on your list would guillotine be?
It would be way down there with the trebuchet and the siege ladder lol
I'd go trebuchet, because at least that's projectile, but siege ladder is probably the last resort (would you jump off it?).
I think I would have to.... an attempted arial attack.... push come to shove hope I land on em and crush them
Americans being Americans
not trying to profile or assume anyone but Philan-Tam-Duy Le isn’t a very American name 😂
Probably an American whose parents came from Vietnam in the 70s!
True true!!! I'm not sure how that slipped my mind esp. since so many ended up on the West Coast as well!
Hahhahaha
It's like American chess teams, full of Chinese names.
If only. We've been pretty lax on the revolution front for a while.
Is that wrong?
Seriously, does a federal statute really designate a guillotine as an illegal weapon? I don't know. Have they determined it is real and operable? It doesn't look like it has a blade.
my understanding is yes the blade had just been dropped when the photo was taken. Since you can’t have large knives I can see how this could qualify as that. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see guillotines listed as a weapon lol
I had exactly the same question! Are guillotine's even illegal?
Also, if you don't have an angry mob, it's not a particularly threatening weapon. And if you do have an angry mob, you don't particularly need the guillotine.
I can hear George Costanza right there...lol
I think it's more about it being a hate crime against cheese eating surrender monkeys
That has to be it.
See, now that's what happens when someone takes a time machine to the current century and brings old ideas with them. I tell you, illegal immigrants these days have some crazy notions in their noggins. Someone needs to get a time police squad set up to catch this sort of thing or its going to get out of hand real quick. I mean, what happens if the Spanish Armada ends up in Boston harbor tomorrow? That's going to be real interesting...
I honestly feel like they might have tried to choose something that made a big statement but wasn't illegal… only to keep the actual blade, that makes it illegal, on it.
Well, its not exactly an offensive weapon...just run away - they can't chase you.
I have been trying to find out the actual legal reasoning.... I thought maybe the guillotine was listed in the U.S. Code, but it is not. It appears to fall under

I guess it is not good... not sure what was the offence here really.
