Brandon is a good friend of mine and is touring India here shortly. He's not a bitcoiner, but is one of my favorite musicians and a really standup guy. When I heard about his upcoming gigs in India, I mentioned that I've made a way for artists to accept payments directly from anywhere in the world in a censorship resistant way without a middleman. So he's now using Direct Current to accept payments!

If you want to preview the record, all of the tracks are listenable a few times for free per IP address on bandcamp: https://brandoncoleman.bandcamp.com/album/trust-fall

If you could pick any industry to branch out into other than musicians (you obv. got that covered), what would it be?

I just want to work on financial inclusion in whatever way is most effective. I wrote this diatribe the other day on how I've lost a lot of my passion for music. It's not because I don't still really like music. It's just been totally eclipsed by the financial inclusion and freedom tech stuff ever since I discovered bitcoin. Since "financial inclusion" isn't exactly an industry, I guess I'd say financial services. That just sounds yucky, but I basically mean working with a service that helps people use bitcoin safely and effectively.

As someone with a background in financial services / fintech, I can tell you that the secret to offering financial services is rentseeking, but that's not what either of us meant, lol.

I also asked a bot which also didn't understand exactly what I meant, but, it wrote a nice report. Second direct current user! woohoo!

For sure!

Thanks! I'll check it out ASAP!

What it did do a little, though not to my satisfaction, is give some good examples of what people are using competing platforms for (which is what I asked for, but I didn't spec the format well.) I found it funny SN got a honorable mention as a related platform / competitor-ish.

hmm, it appears that your wallet connection string is currently broken (unless I cooked up another undiagnosed bug).

Tested everything I have and basically coinos works, nothing else.

Maybe supporting lnemail will make a difference

reply

I do it with my AlbyHub, so that works! I also did it with Primal, which worked, but you need to stay online to collect payments, which is ultimately impractical for this.

Yeah, I want to give as many options as possible.

possible because im testing zeus

My payment went thru but the download button isn't working.

also @sox i'm trying to add a screenshot that I had previously added and then deleted, and it is not working.

Been checking this but with no luck. I'm sorry that I'm reaching out just now.

Here are the things I've tried:

  • creating a comment with a screenshot
    • deleting the comment
      • recreating the comment with screenshot
  • upload, delete and re-upload of the screenshot in the editor

But everything seems to be working smoothly. When you couldn't add the same screenshot, did you receive an error?

reply

No error message.

One thing I did was crop the screenshot between the time I originally uploaded it and reuploaded it.

Hmm, it's possible that our EXIF remover was unable to process your image after it was cropped. It's one of the things that can fail silently and stop an upload even before creating a node in the editor, and given that our remover is finicky about formats or quasi-corrupted files it makes sense.

On which OS did this happen?

reply

android

Hi! I’m checking this out right now!

I’ll come back with questions if I’m not able to reproduce it myself ^^

reply

Oh shit. Did you also put in your email or do it anonymously? If you put in an email, it should have sent you one. If not, send me the preimage and I'll walk Brandon through on how to verify that with his wallet and we'll get you the files ASAP.

Sent a nostr dm

Thanks, I just got back at you over there.

FYI - I just tried to buy the album. I'm getting the message:

checkout temporarily unavailable

I tried a few times.

reply

Ugg! I'm so sorry! I think I've fixed it. Please try now!

I just tried again. Same problem. Keep in mind I'm on Graphene OS using vanadium. I'll try it another way.

This is great!

Thanks!

Same problem on Ubuntu Linux laptop

I really hope this isn't patronizing (I've read enough to know you're a brilliant dude who's been around the block), but you're going to the lightning payment page and not his CC checkout, right? Here's the direct link:

https://directcurrent.space/checkout/6c555bbe-3d35-4bcc-9a0f-6b0b09502c9b

I'm only suspicious that you're at the wrong checkout because the "checkout temporarily unavailable" message isn't something my lightning page shows. I wonder if it comes from the card/Stripe side of Brandon's site. The Direct Current checkout is a separate system entirely.

If you hit that direct link and it loads a QR code / Lightning invoice, you're in the right place. If you still see "checkout temporarily unavailable" there, then I need to get back to the drawing board on this issue.

Success! Smooth as butter. I choose to blame fiat for the hiccup rather than myself. 😀

...I mean, GrapheneOS and Visa aren't exactly a match made in heaven any way you slice the cake. I should add that to my creator pitch.

I am not a.brilliant guy, and you are not patronizing. In fact, I did click buy without scrolling past to the "or" section to pay with lightning! Sorry! But, after entering the email I still got that error (not that I would have paid with fiat anyway) In short, I'm the idiot who proved your site is not idiot proof. Let me try again the right way...

From the post title, I thought you meant the first person to use direct current to power their guitar.

Ha! I love it. Normally I really like being clear with my writing, but that's a confusion that I'm willing to live with.
