LNbits has released the LNbitsBox.
It’s a small device for running LNbits yourself at home or in a small business, without needing to piece together the hardware and software setup.
It comes preconfigured to get started with LNbits and Spark, aimed at making "self-custodial" ;) Lightning payments easier while keeping control in your hands.
If you have comments, questions, or anything else I'm interested to hear them.
What it is
• Small dedicated device
• Runs LNbits on your own network
• Intended to be straightforward to set up
• Suitable for home users, builders, cafés, stalls, shops, and events

I love the concept of a small device like a router that I can plug in and with minimal configuration, start accepting bitcoin payments.
I can see how spark helps with the getting started part, but is there a function for users to graduate to using a real lightning channel? Or does it always stay with Spark?
In my ideal world, it would be as simple as
Of course, liquidity management then becomes a thing. So maybe staying on something like spark makes more sense...
yes, lnbits allows for many "funding sources" as we call them. LNbits supports 21 funding sources including LND, CLN and Phoenixd which suits this upgrade idea well.
The could run LND / CLN but might struggle and tbh, my experience has always been that beefier hardware works best for a proper lightning node. So a good approach would be to connect LNbits on this hardware to a local / remote lightning node.
Ofc, Phoenixd would be a very good option and I have run LNbits w/ Phoenixd on similar hardware before and it's worked very well. I have a plan to add Phoenixd to the LNbitsBox as an out of the box funding source option, but it needs some thinking about to make it work well.
The best of both worlds 🌎 start off with a 'trustodial' setup and potentially migrate to a truly self custodial setup. Interesting
