Make Stacker News the Sponsor for the Bitcoin Meetup Lumbadzi Village
Bitcoin Meetup – Lumbadzi, Malawi
Theme: Thou Art Thy Own Keeper, and Thy Brother’s Keeper Too.
As a response to what the teachers and students requested here: #1442946, I'm thinking about having a Bitcoin Meetup event.
TBH,
We’re not selling dreams.
We’re gathering a new generation of Bitcoin ambassadors.
Together with 50+ students from schools around Lumbadzi Community, right at the boundary between Lilongwe and Dowa districts, will meet under the Malawian sky to learn something that can actually change their future.
And I believe Stacker News should stand behind this gathering—not as spectators, but as the supporting community.
Why This Theme?
“Thou Art Thy Own Keeper.”
No one is coming to fix the broken system for us.
Bitcoin is the gateway to such maturity.
“And Thy Brother’s Keeper, Too.”
Knowledge it isn’t caged.
It’s shared. Translated. Simplified.
You help a friend. You help a village.
That is the essence of this meetup—and it mirrors the culture of Stacker News itself: builders supporting builders through sats, ideas, and encouragement.
What We’ll Do
Simple. Practical. Real.
- What money really is
- Why self-custody matters
- Send and receive sats
- USSD Bitcoin for no-internet users
- Open Q&A
This structure ensures no one is left out—urban or rural, online or offline.
Why We Need Stacker News
- Venue & Setup
- Transport & Coordination
- Refreshments
- Printing & Materials
- Documentation
- Simple merch
We give time, labour, and coordination.
But tools they still cost money.
SN has proven that small contributions from many sovereign individuals can fund real work. This meetup is a chance to turn sats into sovereignty—directly.
The Bigger Picture: Genesis Hub
This meetup is a step towards launching the Genesis Hub aka the Machankura Hub—a permanent, solar-powered Bitcoin learning space.
Significance:
- Offline study
- Local facilitators
- Undiluted education
- Practiced sovereignty
We are not shaping influencers.
We are shaping facilitators.

Please folks, walk with us.
Let’s build the next generation’s Bitcoin future, slowly and together.
Good luck! All the best
Keep building
Awesome!
Given the hub's name, I assume you checked in with Kgothatso? How about Btrust?
I bet they'd be keen to know about this project.
I've been in touch with KG for a long time, of course not specifically about this project. I remember some time ago, me helping his team with Chichewa translation of the Machankura Wallet. I did that with the love of the local communities, where Machankura Wallet is more practical.
I guess Bitrust is more technical. So, I didn't reach out. It is more technical, right? @ank
Yes and no. They also have educational & community grants.
And even if they don't support with grants, they may have good local contacts to support the program with their experience.
Thanks for this. Let me reach out to them also.
@denlillaapan sadly cannot send bitcoin here on Stacker News even if he wanted to because he does not have an attached LN wallet.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen on SN in a long time. "Thou Art Thy Own Keeper, and Thy Brother's Keeper Too" — that's the whole thing, right there in one line.
A few resources that might genuinely help you run this well:
For teaching self-custody simply:
For the meetup itself:
For sustainability after the event:
Malawi's regulatory environment is friendlier than most in the region. The seed you're planting here has deep roots. Keep going.
