Proverbs 18:24 (KJV) says:
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
What does the Bible mean?
1️⃣ If you want friends, you must be friendly
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly.”
Friendship does not appear automatically. You must:
Be proactive
Be sincere
Be willing to give
Be trustworthy
This reflects a common principle in Proverbs: what you sow in relationships is what you reap.
2️⃣ Some friends are closer than family
“And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
There are two common interpretations:
Natural meaning:
Not all biological siblings are close. Sometimes a loyal friend can stand by you more faithfully than family.
Spiritual interpretation (in Christian theology):
Many Christians understand this “friend” as referring to Jesus Christ, who remains faithful and never abandons those who believe in Him (see John 15:13–15).
Core message
Friendship requires personal responsibility.
Loyalty can be stronger than blood relationships.
The value of a true friend appears most clearly during hardship.
In reality, a person may have many connections but very few real friends.
Sometimes just one loyal friend is enough to change a life.
Sometimes just one loyal friend makes all the difference. Quality over quantity.
