I stand by my statement. It’s hard to see communism from inside it.

I just don’t get what communism has to do with this! But okay, I respect your view on the offside rule 🤠

reply

It’s straight out of Harrison Bergeron. Diana Moonglompers would love the offsides penalty.

I had to look up those historical references and now I get your point. I partly agree, but anyone who watches football and knows a bit about it knows it’s the best rule the game has. Without offside, the game would be boring and people wouldn’t really enjoy it.

reply

I never liked it when I played.

reply

Nice, I didn’t know you’d played football before. The offside rule is pretty similar to a rule in rugby, where you can’t pass the ball forward with your hands, and if I’m not mistaken there’s something like that in American football too, right?

reply

Offsides in American football is because the game is played as a series of discrete plays, rather than continuous play. It’s more like lining up on your side of the field for kickoffs.

Hockey has icing, which is another similar rule.

It's interesting that you've been talking about it as there has been some discussion recently to change the rule.

Personally , I like what Wenger is proposing. I think it would support more offensive plays. However we are dealing with people reluctant to make big changes. And this would be a remarkable one. We will see.

I generally like repealing rules that are beyond the basic mechanics of the game.
