Sixth graders in Singapore have to pen a response in accordance with a situational writing task for their junior high school entrance exam. Of course, Sensei will craft his original response in a bid to help his charges learn and love writing.
How I Fell in Love with Basketball
Dear class,
It was a scorching afternoon. It seemed like any other day – but little did I know my life would be changed. My father and I were watching my elder sister, Karen, playing basketball. He then handed me a spare basketball and asked me to try it out.
Karen plays basketball awesomely. Since I wanted to emulate her, I decided to take up my father’s suggestion. I started to bounce the ball alone because I was shy. However, I was clumsy and could not control the ball well.
Karen took the initiative to invite me to practise with her and her friends. This was the first thing I did to improve myself. By practising with her friends, I gained valuable tips from them. The second time I did was to set a regular time to practise shooting. It was challenging at first, but I kept to my routine and gradually became better.
In all, it took me four weeks to be fairly proficient in basketball. Playing basketball has offered me a myriad of benefits, but I love how I get to spend quality time with my sister the most. I really feel that playing together has enhanced our relationship.
Now that I have written about my journey, your curiosity is piqued, isn’t it? Why don’t you join me and my sister some time?
Do you play basketball? Who's your favorite player?
Not really.
More of a football person.
Defender.
No favourite players but typically support Japan and the Netherlands in the World Cup
