Hello friend.
Is it possible to send the laptop to Canada? There's a someone I know there, will be coming back home soon. That way might be more cheaper.
Let me check. Whats the general location in Canada (city)?
She's in Barrie, Ontario.
I really appreciate your help
I was confused by your earlier posts. Are you fundraising just to buy the laptop locally in Malawi or are you still asking someone to buy it and send to you/Canada and then you bring to Malawi?
The primary purpose is to have a working laptop and other tools. Whichever way works for you. Either donating the actual tools, or alternatively donating sats, so I can buy in Malawi.
I did my best to find someone who could bring me it to Malawi, in order to address the shipping challenges.
Here's what it looks like:
Well, I can get my hands on a Dell Latitude E6430s Laptop i5-3320M 2.6GHz 8GB RAM. It has no HDD currently, but I have a spare 160GB Sata I could put in it and ship it with that. The laptop currently runs Win 7 but I could put Linux Ubuntu on it beforehand and it would run Linux instead, providing more space and easier operation. How does that sound?
Wow, that honestly sounds really great. Thank you so much for this — I really appreciate it. The laptop with the Ubuntu setup sounds perfect. I’m super grateful for your generosity and the effort you’re putting into this. It really means a lot to me. 🙏
K, then I'm going to go forward to secure it. However, it will probably take me something around 2 weeks to get it done and ready to ship to Canada. What's your schedule on your contact's end?
$175 can actually get a fairly/slightly used laptop here in Malawi that’s good enough for the job. Buying locally avoids shipping, customs, and battery issues entirely. Thank you for your help — it really means a lot.

Yeah, that’s exactly the struggle in the Global South. Shipping alone can cost more than the device itself once you factor in size, batteries, customs, and random fees. It ends up punishing people simply for where they live. Fundraising and buying locally is often the best alternatively realistic option.
...and there is the problem. I tried to ship a computer to a friend in Argentina, and because of size, content and battery it was insanely expensive. It's prolly better to do a fundraiser and buy the laptop there I suspect.
