I've been listening to the new Bitcoin Podcast recently with Alex McShane, and he said that he likes Nostr, but scrolling is boring.
I thought that's exactly what we need — boring scrolling. That's the reason I left other social media in the first place — addictive scrolling.
People forgot that when Instagram appeared, there were only pictures from your friends, and as your friends’ pictures were updated once every several days, maybe once a day at best, it was very nice to just catch up with what your friends were doing and how they were going on with their lives, especially if you did not meet them on a daily basis. When I left Instagram, my friends were hardly posting at all; it was mostly status updates, ads, algorithms. I was no longer following people I knew, but being fed by the algorithms the pictures I would like. When they introduced Reels and it became doomscrolling, I finally pressed the delete button.
You cannot really doomscroll Nostr; there is no endless video feed, and it's a good thing.
Nostr should be boring, so you can read the news, engage in a couple of zaps of the funny memes, and go on with your life — and your life is supposed to be fun.
Most people now have fun scrolling — boring life. It was normalized, and it's sad, so we need to keep Nostr boring — to have a fun life again.
Keep Nostr boring. It's supposed to be this way.
